Course Description -Technology Tools and Computer Applications

(Formerly known as Introduction to Computer Technology)

Technology Tools and Computer Applications is a required course designed for students entering the high school environment. Students are introduced to a variety of computer applications that can be integrated across all disciplines. The applications include the Microsoft Office Productivity Suite (Word, Excel & PowerPoint), Digital Photography, Graphics, Audio, Video, E-mail, and Web 2.0 online classroom and communication experiences. In addition, research and MLA documentation skills are reinforced. Students also gain an elemental understanding of the physical operations of the computer, basic file management, Internet safety, legal issues and viruses. This class is linked with Earth & Space science which provides an immediate opportunity for students to utilize the skills learned in this class.

This course is one of the requirements for graduation from Sandwich High School.

Course Description - Introduction to Web Design

Introduction to Web Design: The purpose of this course is to introduce students to the skills necessary to design and develop an effective website. Students will use a text editor to write HTML code, and an Internet browser to view their work, as it would appear on the World Wide Web. The topics covered will include, but not limited to, text formatting, page layout, manipulation of graphics, and the use of tables. Adobe Photoshop will be used to teach digital picture enhancements and web page creation techniques. There will be a strong emphasis on effective Web Design.
Students will be required to design and create a minimum of one complete website incorporating all of the learned techniques.

    The above criteria are applied to grades for marking periods 1 & 2.

    Final Project/Exam is worth 20% of the final grade for this course for technology tools - it is 10% for Web Design

Attendance Policy:

  • Each student is to be in his/her assigned seat at the bell.
  • Attendance and participation are considered criteria in determining the final grade. Absences beyond ten per semester per class will result in a ten point reduction from the final grade.
  • It is the student’s responsibility to make up class work due to absences. Please see instructor for make up work options.
  • Incomplete work due to an unexcused absence will result in a “0.”
  • Incomplete work due to an excused absence must be made up within the same time period, as was the absence.

Daily Assignments/Projects:

  • Assignments must be passed in on the day they are due.
  • Assignments turned in late will be assessed a grading penalty.
  • All assignments/projects will be saved on the student’s computer network folders.
  • Printing and organizing files will be the responsibility of each individual student.
